DAWGMA

DAWGMA

Goals
DAWGMA is building new strains of microorganisms to perform new and useful tasks. DAWGMA is sponsored by the Klavins Lab and uses Aquarium, a programmable, semi-automated molecular biology workflow that uses cutting edge techniques and instrumentation, instead of traditional lab work.
Issues
DAWGMA is creating novel, task-specific yeast strains, designing yeast strains for detecting contaminants, like heavy metals, BPA, and hormones, and developing training resources for synthetic biology.
Tools and Methods
Aquarium Operating System (molecular biology workflow and implementation system)
Metabolic engineering with yeast
Desired Majors
Bioengineering
Electrical Engineering
Prep
Interest and/or expertise in synthetic biology and a desire to learn
