VIP to Play Key Role in Student Research and Training

Boise State University faculty have received a historic $7.4 million National Science Foundation award—the largest in the university’s history—to establish the AWESOME Center, dedicated to advancing semiconductor research and workforce development. The initiative will strengthen Idaho’s role in semiconductor innovation by combining education, research, and mentoring opportunities for students across disciplines. A key component of the project is the integration of Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP), which will connect students directly with faculty-led semiconductor research teams, providing hands-on experience and clear pathways into high-demand industry careers.
