VIP Students Preserving Voices, Expanding Perspectives
At Virginia Commonwealth University, the Latino Virginia Oral History Project is expanding its reach, sharing powerful personal narratives that reflect the diverse experiences of Latino communities across the state. The project has already gathered more than 100 interviews, with dozens publicly available and many more planned for release, offering a richer and more inclusive view of Virginia’s history. Through the VIP model, students work alongside faculty to conduct interviews, analyze stories, and contribute to a growing digital archive, gaining hands-on research experience in the process. This collaborative effort not only strengthens student learning but also helps preserve voices that have historically been underrepresented, creating a meaningful resource for both scholars and the broader community.
