VIP Consortium Receives 2019 ABET Innovation Award

The VIP Consortium has won the 2019 ABET Innovation Award "for community-building around and dissemination of the Vertically Integrated Projects model, a scalable, cost-effective approach to undergraduate research adopted by 35 colleges and universities in the US and abroad." The award recognizes the work and accomplishments of VIP sites around the world.

ABET is an international accreditation body for academic programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering and engineering technology. The ABET Innovation Award recognizes programs that are breaking new ground by developing and implementing innovation into ABET-accredited programs.

According to ABET, "This award distinguishes programs that have brought a new dimension to education in areas like: curriculum development, laboratory experiences, teaching methodologies, cross-disciplinary programs, experiential learning – almost anything designed and proven to improve a student’s educational experience."

Ed Coyle accepted the award on behalf of the VIP Consortium at a reception at the Baltimore Hilton on November 1. Several additional representatives from nearby VIP sites attended and were recognized, including Michaela Amoo and Charles Kim from Howard University, Jack Bringardner and Amy Dunford from New York University, Lunal Khoun from Drexel University, Andy Novocin from the University of Delaware, and Julie Sonnenberg-Klein from Georgia Tech, who spearheaded the winning nomination.

Congratulations to everyone in the VIP Consortium for this well-deserved recognition!
